This is one of my shorter post but it's about special effects. Special effects are shown all around in movies on TV but I always wondered who came up with some special effects. I found out it was the the Greeks. They created many special effects. My personal favorite is the flying man because it makes it look like he is flying. I think it is very cool that they came up with that special effect. The moving back drop is also cool because it can move with the scenario because it's on wheels. The Greeks also found a way to put a changing room built in to the back of the back drop. This is cool and predictive because it takes up lees space and there is still a back droop on the other side of the wall. Special effects are know a big part of movies and Tv today so next time you see a special effect thank the Greeks.(If you have any questions please comment.)
Without wardrobe Greek theater would be nothing the character would be hard to identify and would not paint a picture in the readers mind. The Greeks made costume big in theater today. The actors in these plays that had main roles wore boots called cothurni that elevated them above the other actors. The actors with small roles only wore a thin soled shoe called a sock. A cool fact is that when playing female roles, the male actors donned a ‘ prosterneda’ which is a wooden structure infront of the chest to imitate breasts. Some items that they wore are chiton (robe or tunic), achlaina (overgarment), a chlamys (short cloak), a kothurnus (short lace-up boots) , ahimation (overgarment), and peplos (cloak). The Greeks were great at design and architecture. They took this talent and put it into arenas in Greece. They had great ideas that changed theater today. They were known for many things including the alters in the center of the stage for religious plays. They also had the amazing idea to curve the arena so sound could be heard all the way at the top. Arena were also meant to hold 14 thousand people. The arena also had a unique 78 foot across stage. The arenas were tall so the arenas were usually built on a hill. There were also changes in the arena including they had wooden blocks up to 499 bc when they changed to stone blocks. The cool thing to me is that they had an entire section just for the orchestra. Over the time period of me working on this blog I wondered why the grooms wore mask in the first place. So after lots of research I found my awnser. They wore mask to worship Athena and Dionysus. This is cool because they added religion to there theater. You might think how wering mask worsuped them and this worsuped them by entertaining ther with the faces. They also wore mask for celibrebration. This is interesting because a lot of there theater relied on mask to paint a picture for the audience. The other reason is to not show the gender or age of the actor. This reminds me of how in movies based on books the cast based on the age of the actor, and in Greece they did not have to do this. The Greeks were unique in many ways. They also had interesting ways of doing things, they worshiped there gods in a different way like creating theater for them. One thing that interested me was there mask materials. They used everyday objects and made them into things like mask and hair bands. For the materials they used organic materials like stiffened linen, leather, wood, or cork, with the wig consisting of human or animal hair. This is interesting because they wore wigs on there mask to make the person look more like the character they were playing. This made Greek theater every more bit interesting to me. You might thing why they did not make it out of plastic and that's because plastic was invented in 1907. The Greeks were the ones were the ones who invented wigs on the back of the mask. The greeks had many breakthroghs and inventions over the golden years of greek theater. The Greeks made theater a big part of there culture. They made theater big so that the people could show there feelings in acting. The greeks had inventions to make theater more fun and enjoyable for the people watching. The Greeks made history with their mask materials, mask, special effects, arena shape, and costumes. In Greece also theater was a big way for them to worship the gods. The greeks also created new types of plays including comedy, drama, and mystery.
In this post I will give you a preview and outline for what's ahead in my final 800 word post. Over the time that I have been reaserching the topic of Greek theater. In the corse of my research I have learned very interesting facts about Greek theater. A fun fact is that Greeks only mads mask out of organic material. This makes since because they did not have plastic in the 5th century. This question gave me many questions including, why did the Greeks were mask, and why did mask get passed down from generation to generation? Also another thing that will be in my blog post is, what made Greek theater so special and why do we remember Greek theater over early Chinese theater. This is my outline for my final post.
1.intro: why is Greek theater so special 2. Mask materials 3.why did the Greeks were mask 4.arenas shape 5.costumes 6. Special effects There are three questions that I would would like to find the answers to over the corse of this blog. The first is why did the Greeks were mask. Why were mask so important in greek theatr . The third what made Greek theater so special.
Over the corse of this blog I will be talking about the defference between Greek and modren theater. I have decided to recerch Greek Theater because I love movies and movies where tranceformed overtime because there was no camras and TV so theater was like the greeks movies. The thing that really interested me about greek theater was that they had religious plays. I did not that the greeks had religest plays up untill know. Another thing that interested me was that they had alters in the middle of the stage. I will expect to discover the history of greek plays and how they evolved over the years.
